About This Place

Cascal is a vibrant Pan-Latin and Nuevo Latino restaurant located in the heart of Mountain View, CA, at 400 Castro Street. Renowned for its masterful fusion of Spanish, Cuban, Argentinian, and other Latin culinary influences, Cascal offers an authentic and exciting dining experience that transports guests through a rich tapestry of flavors.

The menu is a celebration of expertly crafted dishes, spotlighting house specialties like the Cuban Roast Pork—slow-roasted mojo-marinated pork served alongside black beans, rice, and crispy sweet potato fries—and the indulgent Asado, an Argentinian feast featuring marinated grilled flat iron steak, pork tenderloin brochette, lamb chops, and smoky patatas bravas paired with vibrant chimichurri and grilled shishito peppers. For seafood lovers, the Seafood Pasta with angel hair pasta, shrimp, calamari, and mussels tossed in a luxurious saffron cream is a sublime choice.

No visit to Cascal would be complete without sampling one of their signature paellas. The Paella Cascal infuses imported Spanish Bomba rice with smoked paprika, saffron, chicken, chorizo, shrimp, mussels, and clams, tantalizing the palate with a perfect harmony of smoky, fragrant, and briny notes. For a more extravagant option, the Paella Marinera elevates the experience with Maine lobster, fresh fish, calamari, octopus, and an aromatic shellfish stock.

Vegetarian diners are also well-catered for with dishes like the Eggplant Tian—a layered medley of grilled eggplant, piquillo peppers, and Manchego cheese in a smoky tomato-paprika sauce—and the crispy fried olives stuffed with aged goat and Manchego cheese, delivering a satisfying crunch and rich creaminess.

Cascal’s bar shines as brightly as its kitchen, with sparkling Sangria consistently hailed as a “must” by patrons. The carefully balanced cocktails pair perfectly with a range of tapas, including the Wild Mushroom Empanadas and Patatas Bravas, making it a lively spot to unwind.

The atmosphere at Cascal pulses with energy, especially on busy nights when both the cozy indoor dining room and the inviting outdoor patio fill with eager guests. While the vibrant buzz adds to the authentic Spanish flair, it also means the space can get lively and noisy—perfect for those who thrive in a social, spirited environment. Service receives consistent praise for attentiveness and friendliness, elevating the meal into a memorable occasion.

Highlights from guest reviews affirm the quality and charm of Cascal. Angel Hou notes the freshness of vegetables and tenderness of meats, though advises diners to be mindful of an added 3% wage and welfare charge on bills. L Marie recounts a bustling Thursday evening filled with delicious entrées and outstanding cocktails, while El T raves about the impeccable salmon ceviche and the convenience of a sun-shaded patio. Vegetarian options are applauded by Alvina Waseem, who particularly enjoyed the paella and tender banana leaf chicken.

Ultimately, dining at Cascal is a rich sensory journey through Latin flavors, vibrant hospitality, and a festive atmosphere. Whether you're seeking a casual tapas night with friends or a sumptuous feast of traditional favorites with a twist, Cascal promises a robust and rewarding experience that leaves a lasting impression.

The food here tastes good. The meat is tender, the vegetables are so fresh, and so does the service. But it is not reasonable to charge 3% wage and welfare from the customers, it should be the owner’s responsibility instead of the customers. The tips are also charged based on the value of the after tax including 3% wage and welfare. You’d better pay close attention to your bills.

Cascal was referred by a local friend. All time slots were available when reservation was made for 7PM the following evening (Thursday). Upon arrival, the restaurant was completely filled, both inside and outside with a high noise volume. We loved our cocktails, 3 entrées while we received outstanding service. Everything was delicious! Look forward to returning to Cascal.

Awesome service, great food! Salmon ceviche is the best! Various tapas to choose from, or you can order a sampler which we did. The outdoor patio is nice and with big sun umbrella you don’t have to worry about getting too much sun exposure.

I liked cascal. Came here for a team dinner. Dishes were really filling which I bet is great if you're paying (since I was not paying, I was sad I got full too quick to eat more lol) Tried: - vegetarian paella: pretty good, but I didn't love the choice of certain veggies in the dish like cauliflower. Still, any paella is a must get - chicken on banana leaf: pretty good, tender chicken - lamb chop: really tasty, favorite dish. Potatoes that came with were meh - crispy fried olives: really yummy, also a favorite. So good could eat the whole plate by myself - burrata: meh nothing crazy wouldn't recommend Also tried many desserts: - flan: good if you like flan, but not my favorite - chocolate souffle cake: good but too bitter and not sweet enough for me. Others in my party loved it - tres leches: one of my favorites, I liked that it had a tropical/fruity profile which was new to me. Not overly sweet - basque cheesecake: pretty good, also one of my favorites. Very rich. Could only have a few bites - bread pudding: good but not memorable I would recommend cascal and would be open to coming again

Fresh food and excellent service. A wide selection of tapas and traditional Spanish and Californian delicacies with a mosey twist. Paella was testy and rich. Spanish tortilla was perfectly prepped, right taste and texture. The place can get very busy and noisy. Nice patio.

We had a wonderful evening at Cascal. We enjoyed a few tapas dishes to start and then a paella and dessert. The atmosphere is great and lively. We were sat towards the back where it was quieter. Service was excellent from Luis and the food was delicious. Outside with the heaters looked inviting on the way out for next time. A first time visitor and looking forward to returning ????????

Great vibe with live music and some space to dance. Food is good. Can get crowded during weekend nights and service might be slow.
